Meet Shanda

wife, Mother, Veteran, adventurer, explorer…

Shanda Akin is a multi-genre photographic artist and educator based in Colorado. Her deep love of nature and zest for living life to the fullest are at the heart of her work. Shanda combines her artistic vision with a deep appreciation for the natural world, seeking to reveal the quiet beauty, complexity, and delicate connections found within landscapes. Her practice is grounded in a commitment to responsible land stewardship and fostering a greater appreciation for the places that inspire her.

Shanda served for 25 years in the United States Air Force, where she taught, mentored, and led thousands of Airmen. In 2019, she transitioned from her military career to pursue photography full time. Her work is exhibited online, in galleries, and at art fairs, and she regularly teaches classes, makes presentations, and judges photography competitions.

Shanda is the co-founder of Outdoor Photo Alliance and Horizons Photo, organizations founded on the belief that photography can connect, inspire, and educate people through a shared passion.

In 2023, Shanda published her first photography book, The Beauty of Durango. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Photography from Academy of Art University and continues to explore the intersection of art, nature, adventure, and connection through her photography and teaching.
